The Kapsch Group and the mumok (Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien) are awarding the Kapsch Contemporary Art Prize in 2016 for the first time. This award serves to promote young artists whose life and work are centered in Austria. An initial introduction to the international public awaits the winner. In addition, the winner receives a 3-month solo exhibition at the mumok as well as an associated publication.
At the recommendation of ten art experts, 17 artists applied for the Kapsch Contemporary Art Prize. Out of these applicants, the international jury consisting of mumok Director Karola Kraus, Georg Kapsch, CEO of the Kapsch Group, Eva Birkenstock, Director of the Düsseldorfer Kunstverein, Yilmaz Dziewior, Director of the Museum Ludwig Köln and Stephanie Weber, Curator for Contemporary Art at the Lenbachhaus Munich, selected the artist Anna-Sophie Berger as this year’s winner of the new art award.

Kapsch. challenging limits.
The collection spans a range from the classical modern with works of cubism, futurism and surrealism to the art movements of the 1960s and 1970s: pop art, Fluxus and nouveau réalisme. The early 20th century is represented with paintings and sculptures by Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti, among others. Key works of pop art by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein can also be found in the collection, as can important pieces of the Fluxus movement, conceptual art and Viennese Actionism. In recent years, the mumok collection has been expanded with current pieces of film, video and photographic art.
